How to Transfer a Meta Personal Ads Account to a Business Ads Account
A Personal ad account is limited and rarely is the ideal over a Business setup.

Managing Facebook and Instagram ads from a personal ad account may work for small-scale campaigns, but as your business grows, transitioning to a Meta Business Ads account is the best way to scale effectively.
Moving your ad account to Meta Business Manager provides:
✔️ Better security – Protects your business assets from unauthorized access.
✔️ Team collaboration – Allows multiple users with different access levels.
✔️ Organized asset management – Connects ad accounts, Pages, and Pixels in one place.
So, how do you transfer your personal Meta Ads account to a Business Ads account? Follow this step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Set Up a Meta Business Manager Account
Before transferring your ad account, you need a Meta Business Manager account.
📌 How to create a Meta Business Manager account:
✔️ Go to Meta Business Manager
✔️ Click Create Account and log in with your Facebook credentials.
✔️ Enter your business name, email, and details.
✔️ Follow the prompts to complete your setup.
💡 Tip: Make sure your business email is correct—this is how Meta will communicate with you about your account.
Step 2: Find Your Personal Ad Account ID
To move your personal ad account to Business Manager, you need its Ad Account ID.
📌 How to locate your Ad Account ID:
✔️ Go to Meta Ads Manager.
✔️ Click the dropdown menu in the top-left corner.
✔️ Find and select the ad account you want to transfer.
✔️ Copy the Ad Account ID (it’s a long number displayed under the account name).
💡 Tip: If you have multiple ad accounts, double-check that you are selecting the correct one.
Step 3: Add Your Personal Ad Account to Meta Business Manager
Now that you have your Ad Account ID, you can link it to your Business Manager.
📌 How to add a personal ad account to Business Manager:
✔️ Log in to Meta Business Manager.
✔️ Click Business Settings in the left-hand menu.
✔️ Select Accounts > Ad Accounts.
✔️ Click Add and choose “Add an Ad Account”.
✔️ Paste your Ad Account ID and confirm.
💡 Important:
- You must be an admin of the ad account to transfer it.
- A personal ad account can only be assigned to one Business Manager. Once moved, you can’t transfer it again.
Step 4: Assign Roles & Permissions
Once the ad account is inside Business Manager, you need to assign roles to team members.
📌 How to assign team members to your ad account:
✔️ In Business Settings, go to People.
✔️ Click Assign Assets and select Ad Accounts.
✔️ Choose the ad account you added.
✔️ Assign the appropriate roles:
- Admin: Full control over ads, billing, and settings.
- Advertiser: Can create and manage ads but can’t change billing.
- Analyst: Can view data but can’t make edits.
✔️ Click Confirm to save changes.
💡 Tip: Assign roles carefully—you don’t want unauthorized users accessing your billing or campaign settings.
Step 5: Verify Your Transfer & Manage Your Ads
After completing the transfer, confirm that everything is working correctly.
📌 How to check if your ad account is in Business Manager:
✔️ Go to Business Settings > Ad Accounts.
✔️ Ensure your ad account is listed and active.
✔️ Open Ads Manager and confirm you can create and manage ads.
💡 If you don’t see your ad account, wait a few minutes and refresh the page. Sometimes Meta takes time to process changes.
Bonus: What Else to Transfer? (Pixels, Pages & More)
If you’re moving your ad account, you may also need to transfer other business assets.
✔️ Facebook Page: Assign your business’s Facebook Page to Business Manager under Accounts > Pages.
✔️ Pixels & Tracking: Go to Events Manager > Pixels and assign tracking assets to your business.
✔️ Billing Information: Confirm that your billing settings are correct under Payment Methods in Business Manager.
💡 Tip: If you manage multiple businesses, use separate Business Manager accounts to avoid confusion.
